I’ve got a site full of products and I want to build a comparison tool where the user can select two products and compare them side-by-side. That part in of itself shouldn’t be hard to build, but what I’m trying to figure out is how I can make all this SEO friendly.
For a demo of another site that does this well, here is a headphone comparison tool and you’ll notice that as you select different headphones (it’s the blue/green bar) you’ll notice the actual Meta Title & static URL will change meaning that every unique comparison is it’s own dedicated page.
I believe this is referred to as programmatic SEO.
Right now I have about 1,000 products in my database which would be a total of about 500k pages if my math is correct. That is WAY more than static pages will ever support (at least in the near future) so I’m guessing I’m going to have to tackle this via dynamic pages but then I lose out on all those unique comparison URLs being included in my sitemap.
Am I missing something here? I feel like building something like this out could be a massive SEO boost for my site and I’d love to accomplish this before the holiday shopping season kicks off.
Black Friday is the peak of shopping from what I have seen in past years. Things really pick up around the second week of October now because these retailers just keep starting sales events earlier and earlier.
I’ve heard rumblings of this feature coming so hopefully it’s sooner than later!
