WeWeb for ecommerce frontend?

Hello!

Anyone has any thoughts or experience on using WeWeb as an ecommerce front end and using a platform such as BigCommerce or Shopify as the backend?

Thanks!
David

E-commerce is a totally different use-case as creating SaaS apps or CRMs for example (which WeWeb is made for).

While it’s totally doable to create a frontend on top of Shopify with WeWeb, we would recommend using tools like Shogun

Not sure I’m understanding the suggestion. What would prevent one from using a headless e-commerce platform and then connecting to a WeWeb front end through an API? Is it not possible to make API calls from WeWeb?

@Quentin can you further explain, why you’d recommend some other software over WeWeb for this. Wouldn’t the REST API, as @benFortunato mentioned, be sufficient for this? Where do you see disadvantages of WeWeb for this?

Hi @andreas

I think it really depends on how much of a specialized tool you want to work with.

A tool like Shogun is dedicated to ecommerce. It has features dedicated to ecommerce that WeWeb doesn’t have. For example, it has an in-built content management system and A/B testing features.

We don’t have these features because our mission is to provide you with a no-code frontend builder that gives you complete freedom in terms of design and third-party integrations. So if you prefer a modular approach with more flexibility (working with your preferred CMS and A/B testing tool for example), WeWeb might be a better fit.

Neither approach is inherently good or bad.
