After you create a component, you risk losing everything because you will no longer be able to access the children. It is a bug, and the only way to fix it (that I found) is to recreate the component 
. There is no way to recover it. I recommend saving the element in the library (not as a component) before creating a component. Otherwise, you risk working for hours and losing everything.
