Mcp trial ended

Hi, I’m using the WeWeb MCP through Antigravity and I’m receiving this error: “[MCP TRIAL ENDED] Your WeWeb MCP trial has ended. To keep building with the MCP, upgrade this workspace to a Pro or Partner plan.”

However, I can’t find any mention in the WeWeb pricing/billing documentation that MCP access is a trial or that it requires a Pro/Partner plan. Could you clarify when the MCP trial started, how long it was supposed to last, and where this limitation is documented?

I’m currently on the free plan. Is MCP actually unavailable on this plan, or is this an issue with my workspace’s MCP entitlement?

Hi @tekno :waving_hand:

The MCP is available for 14 days on the free plan:

The screenshot above is from our pricing page. I will ask the team to add a note in our user documentation as well.

Thank you for the clarification, but in the dashboard pricing page it doesn’t include these details which can be confusing.

Ah ok, didn’t notice that, thanks for the head’s up! I’ll let the team know

Hi @Joyce ,

The same error is shown on the Essential plan (MCP TRIAL ENDED) - which might be a little confusing as the trial did not end, but tokens have been depleted (my assumption). Upgrading to Pro solved the problem, but the tokens on the dashboard does not deplete/update based on MCP usage.

There is also no note that I can find that stipulates that there is a token limit when using external Agents (meaning essentially you have to procure tokens from BOTH a WeWeb perspective and an external agent perspective to use the MCP) - this might be worth noting somewhere.

Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect - thanks!

Hola @Joyce,

Hi @Joyce,

I wanted to add my case to this thread because it seems I’m not the only one affected. I’m on the Essential plan and I also have hasMcpAccess: false, unable to use the WeWeb MCP with Claude.

I mention this because last month, on this same plan, I did have access and was working with the MCP without any issues. Also, on the pricing page the Essential plan is listed with “Unlimited access to WeWeb MCP Server”, so it’s not clear to me whether this is a limit that changed, a specific bug, or if something else is needed on our end.

Honestly, upgrading to the Pro plan right now would be a significant strain on my budget, so I’d really appreciate it if you could confirm what’s going on and help us regain access within the Essential plan. And if the conditions changed at some point, it would help a lot if that were clearly reflected in the documentation and on the pricing page, to avoid confusion going forward.

Thanks for the help!

Same here, plan Essential, last month I used the MCP much more than I have this month and somehow since today I’m having the same issue.

Same issue here on the Essentials plan. I was so excited when I saw MCP popup access, I should be asleep.

_______________
ping returns “Server connected”, which is misleading. But getMe reports hasMcpAccess: false on your workspace, and every project-scoped call fails:

[MCP TRIAL ENDED] Your WeWeb MCP trial has ended. To keep building with the MCP,

upgrade this workspace to a Pro or Partner plan.

Looks like the tier terms have changed. Essential users now only get a trial not unlimited MCP access anymore :frowning:

I am also on the Essential plan and have been using the MCP for approximately the last month. This morning, after reconnecting the plugin several times, ChatGPT reported that WeWeb first returned MCP TRIAL ENDED and then that getMe returned hasMcpAccess: false, so I can no longer connect.

My WeWeb AI usage this month is minimal. More importantly, I believe WeWeb’s current documentation states that paid seat plans include ongoing MCP access, and its MCP page states that MCP uses the connected agent’s tokens rather than WeWeb AI credits.

Because Essential is a paid seat plan, please confirm whether this is an Essential-plan access bug and restore MCP access without requiring an upgrade to Pro.

Same here, I had some work on hold waiting for the popup capabilities and was excited to resume it as I saw the new release notes.

If it is intentionnal, it would have been nice to know in advance so we could plan ahead :sad_but_relieved_face:

This must be a mistake. I’m hoping its a test that accidentally got to production. If not, surely a warning period would be due. At minimum the features that were paid for should be available for the month period that was paid?

Hey there :waving_hand:

Apologies for the confusion. Let me clarify how the MCP pricing has evolved so everything is clear and transparent:

  • From MCP launch to August 4th: We initially released the MCP server as a paid feature on the Pro plan, with a trial period so everyone could try it out.

  • From August 5th to August 19th: We ran an experiment with an MCP-focused onboarding. During this period, the trial remained available and the MCP server was included in the Essential plan.

  • From August 20th: We reverted to the previous pricing, with the MCP server available starting from the Pro plan.

If you subscribed to the Essential plan between August 5th and August 19th, you should still have access to the MCP server. If that’s not the case, please contact support via the in-app chat so we can take a look.

If your trial has expired and you subscribed to the Essential plan before August 5th, you will no longer have access to the MCP server and will need to upgrade to the Pro plan to continue using it.

I hope this clears things up, and apologies again for the confusion around these changes.

Thank you for that explanation. I’ve been using WeWeb for about six months and have been very happy with the product. I’ve also found the MCP connector extremely useful over the past two weeks, and I appreciate the effort that has gone into developing it.

That said, the communication surrounding this pricing change has felt confusing and after the fact. Requiring users to more than double their subscription cost to retain MCP access also feels difficult to justify, particularly for users who do not need the other Pro features.

Unclear or overly aggressive pricing can undermine an otherwise technically impressive product. Would you please reconsider including MCP with the Essential plan? Alternatively, an à la carte MCP add-on would seem like a fair compromise for users who primarily need that feature.

First off, a genuine thank you for the MCP server in general, it’s been a huge step forward, and honestly, how well it works is impressive. Real credit to the team for that :slightly_smiling_face: !

That said, I want to raise a pricing concern. We’re effectively forced into a €72/month (incl. Taxes) plan just to use MCP. I get that it’s not in the Free plan, that’s fine but it leaves me wondering what the Essential plan is even for anymore. I’d be upgrading purely for MCP access, not for Pro’s other features, which is a steep barrier to entry.

A while back the plans made more sense, since AI token allowances were more important. I barely use those tokens anymore now that MCP exists, and I suspect many others don’t either, probably driving downgrades you now need to respond to.

A fairer setup, in my view: unlimited MCP on Pro, but at least some baseline allowance on Essential. Right now I feel pushed into Pro just to keep building. I’m happy to pay for a product I like, but the current setup leaves a strange feeling, especially with the pricing plans some days ago stating “unlimited access to MCP” and even when I asked someone from the team to make sure.

I honestly don’t know off the top of my head whether paying something like €72/month including tax for MCP access is reasonable or not. That’s an increase of roughly +140% from Essential just to go on…

I agree with Andrew and Michael, I have been a Weweb user and supporter for several years now and was reluctant to leave but not having the ability to let LLM assist both my frontend and backend work was really a big pain so I considered leaving weweb a few months back.

I was really happy about @Raphael 's response concerning the MCP development and the intention not to gate it behind a premium plan…

I am curious to know what changed since and if there could be an in-between plan or at least a transition period where we could still benefit from the MCP on the essential plan as this seems to have caught many of us by surprise.

Echoing similar concerns here, feel a bit blindsided by the change as it’s not been broadcasted anywhere this is the case. In face in many places it seemed to indicate MCP was available for all paid plans.

It’s been great to use and realistically I would imagine it’s still the best route to continue development for me, but upgrading to a 2x higher plan just for that seems like a sudden jump to have with no warning at all. Doesn’t fill me with trust in being able to use the platform long term and trust it will be possible.

The communication in general could be better, even the plugin/integration change and the continued lack of mcp to be able to author integration tables while blocking plugin actions is also confusing.

Hi @joyce , and thanks for the clear timeline. It’s genuinely appreciated, and I want to say upfront that the MCP server itself has been fantastic to work with. It’s been a core part of my workflow and I’d like to keep using it.

That said, I think my case (and I suspect others’) doesn’t fit neatly into the timeline you shared, and I wanted to lay it out in case it’s useful.

I moved to the Essential plan on July 11th. Between then and August 4th, before your stated “Essential experiment” window even started on August 5th, I was already using the MCP server continuously and without interruption, and I never held a Pro subscription at any point. So by the timeline you posted (MCP as Pro-only with a trial, pre-August 5th), my access during those three-plus weeks shouldn’t have worked at all but it did, reliably, the whole time.

That makes the August 5th–19th window feel like it doesn’t actually mark when my access to the MCP began, it began nearly a month earlier. So being excluded now, for having subscribed to Essential “too early” relative to a 15-day experiment window I wasn’t even aware was happening, feels like the wrong line to draw. If anything, users like me who’ve been paying Essential customers and active MCP users well before the experiment are being treated worse than users who happened to sign up during that particular fortnight.

On top of that, your own documentation still says something different from what’s happening. Right now, on WeWeb Pricing Plans | Documentation , it reads:

“Available on a 14-day trial on the Free seat plan. Paid seat plans include ongoing MCP access.”

Essential is a paid seat plan, and that line doesn’t single out Pro anywhere. So as of today, your own docs still promise exactly the access that’s currently being denied to Essential users.

I also want to echo what several others in this thread have already raised, because together it paints a consistent picture:

  • No changelog entry, dashboard notice, or advance warning before the revert on the 20th, several of us only found out because our workflows broke that morning.
  • The pricing page still lists MCP access as part of Essential in places, which is exactly the kind of confusion Faisal flagged on the 16th.
  • andrewwinters made the same documentation point independently (“WeWeb’s current documentation states that paid seat plans include ongoing MCP access”), and Michael noted the pricing plans were stating “unlimited access to MCP” even after checking with someone from the team.
  • The jump from Essential to Pro to regain MCP access is roughly 100% (~€20 to ~€50/month), which is a steep ask for something that was working fine on Essential for weeks with no notice it would be revoked.

Given the above, would it be possible to also honor Essential subscribers who had continuous MCP access before the August 5th window, not just those who signed up during it? And separately, could the docs and dashboard get updated to match whatever the actual policy is, since right now they still say something different from what’s being enforced?

Thanks again for engaging with this thread directly.. it does make a difference.

@Joyce
I echo the comments above. I’ve been an Essentials user since before the MCP was launched and my experience matches with @javitote above. The timeline provided doesn’t really seem to line up with my experience during this time.

There was nothing before this moment that me as a user has seen to indicate that MCP usage would move to a different tier. When the MCP launched, was it communicated anywhere to existing Essential users that it was a trial only?
Yes new users may have been more aware of trials etc. But I find it hard to refer to an existing monthly user as someone who “subscribed” in August when it was their monthly subscription rolling over.

I completely understand MCP usage does incur some infrastructure costs, but MCP really isn’t an extra feature that only some users will employ. I would imagine nearly all the customer base of a no/low-code SaaS frontend builder would have jumped straight on to using it. The conversation is real on whether this is a genuine unique add on that should be up-charged for, or simply keeping up with the way things are going. I think this is now a core-feature that new users especially will almost exclusively make use of.

My experience with Weweb has been nothing but stellar to this point. I’ve been so impressed with the level of service, care and accessibility of the real people building this product. It’s genuinely something I think makes Weweb stand out just as much as the product.

But, this does feel like a bit of a blindsided moment. For users to be mid session and a core feature to just stop, for whatever reason, isn’t right. Even if ultimately users don’t leave. It’s not about the money (althought for some it may be), it’s the principle. At minimum, an email to existing Essentials users saying “Hey, MCP usage will require a Pro subscription from your next monthly renewal”, would have been best practice here.

I also fully echo @javitote 's comment above of “Thanks again for engaging with this thread directly.. it does make a difference.”. It really does set Weweb apart. And we (myself certainly) care and want it to succeed. This one situation though, does feel like an own-goal, an unnecessary mark on what otherwise seems to be a great company that I am cheering on!

Hey all, I completely understand the frustration here.

Let me try to explain it another way:

  • Everyone initially had access to MCP through a free trial, regardless of their plan.
  • People who purchased an Essential plan before August 5th also had access to MCP during the August 5th–19th period, even though MCP was not included as a feature of the Essential plan when they subscribed.
  • People who purchased an Essential plan between August 5th and August 19th will keep access to MCP. During that period, MCP was explicitly listed as a feature of the Essential plan, so we recognize that some people may have upgraded to Essential specifically because MCP was included.

That’s the reason for the August 5th cutoff: it’s not based on when someone first started using MCP, but on what was included in the Essential plan at the time they subscribed.

Regarding the documentation: you’re right. This should have been updated yesterday. We updated our main pricing page and the “Intro to MCP” article in the user docs but missed the “Understanding WeWeb pricing” page in the user docs. We’ll fix that now.

And regarding communication around the pricing changes: all fair points. As @Raphael mentioned earlier, we’re still figuring things out and adapting to how the product and market are evolving.

We could clearly have done a better job communicating around MCP. In hindsight, extending MCP access to Essential plans purchased before August 5th blurred the distinction between temporary access and what was actually included in those plans at the time of purchase.

PS: we really appreciate the kind words about rooting for WeWeb and appreciating that we engage with the thread  These pricing topics are never easy and we definitely want you to keep the feedback coming!

Am I understanding this correctly?
-People who never had paid WeWeb anything but upgraded to Essentials between August 5th-19th because Essentials listed unlimited MCP access, get to retain access. With no sunset.
-People who have been paying for an Essentials subscription for months/years, now have to upgrade to Pro for the same unlimited MCP access?

I think that makes it worse.

But, I’ll leave it alone now. I, like i’m sure many others, have upgraded to Pro. The alternative is abandoning my project.

I’m guessing Weweb AI usage, and therefore token purchases, has dropped off a cliff (my WeWeb AI just started throwing errors a few weeks ago and hasn’t worked since). So I understand there are commercial constrains and you were seeing no direct revenue (outside attracting new users) for what is a revolutionary step forward in AI’s ability to interact with services such as Weweb.
