Help understanding component properties and binding them to elements in the component

I have a DIV that has multiple containers with elements inside each container (ie. a text element). When I turn the DIV into a component I create a property called “Question” that I then want to bind the property to the text element. I can work with the properties at the top level of the component (ie. the DIV) but cannot see that property in any underlying elements. Am I missing something?
