Can you create state for a subclass only

I have a Standard class and a Standard - hover subclass. In the latter, I want to have Hover state and in the former I do not.
How can I do so? When I try to add a state to the subclass the states is added to the class, too.

Right now state is always above the class, meaning you have to set a class for each state specifically

However, we might be changing this soon due to feedback from users so you will be able to add hover to your class
